Dr. Leonard R. Hock, D.O., CMD will be joining AFS Support Groups in the Pensacola and Milton areas for a special series called "Ask Dr. Hock" to answer your questions about caregiver health and wellness.

Dr. Leonard HockDr. Hock was recently appointed Senior Vice President of Medical Services for Covenant Hospice with corporate offices in Pensacola, Florida. Covenant Hospice is one of the country’s premier non-profit hospice organizations, serving 35 counties in Florida and Alabama.

Dr. Hock has been a member of AMDA for many years and received his CMD in l996. He was recently elected by the membership to serve on the Board of Directors of AMDA. Recognizing that AMDA is a progressive and active professional organization, he has been involved locally and nationally. He has served as Medical Director for various nursing homes, assisted living facilities, hospices and hospital based geriatric clinics in Kansas City, Missouri for over 20 years.

He has also been a management and development consultant for hospital and nursing facility programs. One of his favorite jobs was the FOX 4 Television News doctor in Kansas City for thirteen years. He was seen by thousands of viewers daily who watched him speak on important health topics that mattered to them. He is a local, regional and national presenter on medical, scientific and cultural issues.

His work as a Medical Director has been recognized and he has served on the Missouri Best Practices Committee—a state and private provider committee that gets things done for the frail and elderly in nursing facilities. He was appointed to a Kansas Medicaid work group focusing on end-of-life issues for nursing home residents. Dr. Hock was recently an officer of the Missouri Association of Long Term Care Physicians and the Kansas Medical Directors Association. His work on both of those AMDA state chapters lead to closer relationships with state organizations, an achievement he is proud of.

Dr. Hock was born and raised in rural Oklahoma. He served in Vietnam as an Army medic in a small field hospital. There he was awarded the Army Commendation medal. He attended the Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine graduating in 1976 where he continues as a guest professor of geriatrics. His internship was in Dallas and his internal medicine residency was in Kansas City. Dr. Hock is board certified in Internal Medicine with a CAQ in Geriatrics. He is also boarded in Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
